Australian Open 2023 is SAM STOSUR’s Goodbye Tournament

Sam Stosur has declared that the Australian Open in 2023 will be her final competition.

This evening, the 38-year-old revealed the news on social media.

Stosur will compete in her 21st and last Australian Open partnered Alize Cornet of France in the women’s doubles and fellow Australian Matt Ebden in the mixed doubles.

“I am overjoyed and thrilled to have the opportunity to conclude my favorite Slam – my home Slam – in front of my Australian fans, friends, and family,” Stosur tweeted.

The well-known Australian is a five-time Olympian and an eight-time Grand Slam winner. She won the US Open singles championship in 2011, easily defeating Serena Williams in the final, and she has seven major doubles titles.

Stosur reached career high rankings of No. 4 in singles and No. 1 in doubles.

“I’m excited to play one last time in front of my incredible supporters, who are the reason I go out there every day.”
